ABOUT ME
Nice to meet you!
I'm Bex (short for Rebekah), a 40-something born-again believer, wife, mom, creative business owner, and certified nutrition coach here to help you build sustainable, healthy practices that seamlessly integrate into your daily life.
I LOVE teaching others about the power of food, and that what you put in your mouth can either contribute to inflammation or foster healing.
I am constantly exploring and studying the latest research and data, and searching for new foods that I can recommend to my clients. All of the food i recommend or include in my guides and lists are anti-inflammatory, low-lectin, seed-oil free, high protein, clean ingredients, and generally approved by gut specialists and functional health experts.
MY PHILOSOPHY
My principles are based on both ancient/biblical wisdom AND new scientific evidence that proves whole body health can be achieved with intention and awareness to our surroundings, what we consume, and how we move our bodies.
In a world ruled by comfort, convenience, and efficiency, my focus is to help you gain a better understanding of how our modern way of life is affecting us - not just physically - but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Together, we will learn how nutrition, movement, and rest can be powerful tools to help you live a longer more fulfilling life, and reach your goals.
Achieving optimum health is not a one-size-fits-all program, but it doesn't have to be complicated or difficult either. Based on your individual needs, abilities, capacities, and preferences, we will work together to establish new habits and routines that can be implemented into your daily life NOW, with lasting results.
Whole health isn't just about looking good or even feeling good - it's about honoring God in faithful stewardship with the bodies He gave us!
MY STORY
My health journey began back in 2009. Working an admin job at a holistic wellness clinic, I was in my mid-twenties, eating poorly, drinking often, and not taking care of my body. At work, I'd see patients come in with seemingly incurable ailments, pains, and chronic symptoms, and then after a few visits, leave completely different people. Capable, vibrant, healthy people. It absolutely fascinated me, so I kept my ears and eyes open, asked a billion questions, and soaked up all that I could.
When I got pregnant with my first daughter (Olivia) in 2014, I reached a crossroads: do I put into practice what I've learned or continue doing what's familiar and comfortable? That's when everything changed. I became a "crunchy mom", reading ingredients, making real food, buying clean products, seeing chiropractors and holistic healthcare practitioners, and becoming informed on things like vaccines and medications.
In 2017, 6 months after the birth of my second daughter (Eve), I started a small business; a clean candle company I named Happy Little Flame. At the time I was desperate to find non-toxic candles that were safe to burn around my babies, but I couldn't find anything that was actually clean, safe, and smelled good. So I created it myself! It was through this amazing creative outlet that I was able to grow a large community that cared about their health, with whom I could share my enthusiasm for non-toxic ingredients (and my products, too).
Over the last 9 years as my company has grown (and my kids alongside it), so has my knowledge and experience in functional health and healing. I experimented with cleanses and fasts, and adopted a mostly lectin-free diet after reading Dr. Gundry's The Plant Paradox. I gave up alcohol altogether, began prioritizing my sleep (once my kids let me!) and stayed as informed and up-to-date as possible on all things food, ingredients, and non-toxic living, putting everything I was learning into practice. I was feeling healthier than ever before!
...Until I hit a hormonal wall in 2023 (at age 39). I dove deep into researching perimenopause and tried several different supplements to try to naturally balance my hormones and feel normal again. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't focus, I had some pretty intense anxiety, and i was gaining weight like it was my job. I tried eating cleaner (as if that was even possible), cut calories, and saw a chiropractor regularly. But it wasn't until I began working with a personal trainer lifting weights 3x a week, counting macros and eating way more protein than I ever thought I'd need, that I actually began to see and feel a difference. With some time and effort, I am in the best shape of my life.
And the best part?
Now I get to help others feel this good!
